CANTON – A Potsdam man was arrested by Canton police Jan. 17 for allegedly taking more than $5,000 from a village resident for contracting work and then failing to do the job.
Matthew R. Williams, 50, owner of North Country Masonry, 430 May Rd., was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D-felony.
Police said Williams entered into a contract with a local resident in October 2016 to complete several masonry jobs at his residence, but did not do the work.
Williams was arraigned in Canton town court on Jan. 17, and was released to reappear at a later date.
This comes on the heels of this same defendant being charged by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for a similar charge in late December 2017, police said.
