POTSDAM -- A Potsdam man was jailed after allegedly crashing a vehicle while intoxicated and then entering a home without consent and assaulting a victim inside, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies.
Michael A. Gonyou, 41, was charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, first-degree burglary, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, officers said.
Gonyou was involved in a property-damage accident on County Route 35 prior to entering the home, located at 1170 State Highway 345, officers said.
Once inside the home Gonyou reportedly assaulted one of the occupants, recklessly endangered another and damaged property while in the presence of a child, deputies said.
Deputies said they discovered Gonyou's driving privileges were suspended from a prior alcohol-related offense.
He was remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $2,000 bail or $4,000 bond, officers said.
