POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Knights of Columbus seek members to join the active community organization.

Although the Potsdam Knights of Columbus building was sold in 2002 to Kip Blanchard, Council #340 is still active. They use the Rectory across from St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam for their meetings, and meet the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.

They assist St. Mary’s with thanksgiving baskets, place markers and flags on graves of members who have passed, and look for new activities to assist the church community.

The group is planning to sell raffle tickets to win $300 for heating fuel through Merriman’s in Norwood.

The Knights of Columbus was officially chartered as a fraternal benefit society in 1882 in Connecticut. The order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.

The group was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled, and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief, and public relief works.

The Potsdam K of C #340 officers include Grand Knight Lloyd LaValley, Deputy Grand Knight Gregory Bouchard, Secretary Bill Enslow, Treasurer Ron McCasland, Recorder George Lamb, and Warden Elbridge Randall.

To inquire about membership, contact Grand Knight Lloyd LaValley 265-7322 or Deputy Grand Knight Greg Bouchard 244-3798.
