POTSDAM -- The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam is expanding its school supply collection campaign this year, thanks to a partnership with the Potsdam Walmart.

“It is known as a Stuff the Bus campaign,” Potsdam Kiwanis Club President-Elect, Marylee Ballou said. “School Supply Donations will be collected on Friday Aug.16 through Sunday Aug. 18 outside of the Potsdam Walmart between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Just look for the bus.”

All the donated items will be delivered to the Potsdam Neighborhood Center on Aug. 19. The center will distribute the supplies to local students in need.

“We have seen yet another increase in the number of families reaching out for assistance in the last few months, and this partnership between caring community organizations is really going to help offer those families a hand up in a difficult time. It is a hard time for many- with schools having less, they need to ask for more of the families and those families just might not have it to give. I can't thank them enough for their support," PNC Director Daisy Cox said.

Kiwanis is a volunteer service organization. Among many service projects, The Potsdam Kiwanis Club supports two youth leadership groups in the Potsdam School District including the K- Kids and Key Club.

It also partners with Potsdam Public Library in a “Head Start” reading program to promote a love of books and reading as a family.

Kiwanis also has a Scholarship program.
