POTSDAM -- The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam inducted two new members in December. Thomas Chappel, the new director of Potsdam Helping Hands, and Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marylee Ballou were welcomed to the club

The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam focuses on the children of the community, but does many other things as well.

Potsdam Kiwanis was chartered in 1989 and has become known for some of their projects, such as the Head Start Reading Program in Potsdam, Parishville and Norwood, the Adopt-a-Highway on Route 56 from the Price Chopper parking lot to the Pleasant Valley Road, Story Hour with Santa at the public library, the giving trees for the Potsdam Holiday Fund, and many donations to help local non profit organizations.

This month, the Kiwanis Club of Potsdam will be hosting a visit from the Kiwanis New York District Governor.

The Potsdam Club sponsors three youth programs, the Lawrence Avenue K-Kids club, the Potsdam High School Key Club and the Clarkson University Circle K.

The club is always expanding and looking for ways to make the community a better place to live.

If you would like to know more about Kiwanis visit www.kiwanisclubofpotsdam.webs.com or call President Daniel Fritz at 265-8661.

The club meets on Tuesdays at noon at the Ponderosa Restaurant on Market Street.
