Potsdam Icestorm girl’s hockey team advances to USA Hockey National Tournament; fundraising for trip to Michigan

POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Icestorm Tier II 16U girl’s hockey team won the New York State Championship earlier this month advancing them to the USA Hockey National Tournament.

The national tournament is held in Troy, Michigan April 5-10. They are the only team from St. Lawrence County heading to nationals.

To help offset costs from the trip, the team is holding several fundraisers before the trip. All funds raised will go towards travel, lodging, food and other team expenses for the players at the tournament.

Players on the team are from all over the North Country representing Potsdam, Parishville, Canton, Ogdensburg, Massena, Fort Covington, Hogansburg, North Bangor and Clayton.

The roster includes, Lizzy Christy, Mikayla Cipullo, Madison Collette, Rylee Garrow, Hayley Gray, Rosie Jeneault, Gabrielle Jones, Makenzie Martin, Alana McDonald, Alex Quinn, Taylor Razis, Gisele Todd, Olivia Scott, Claire Tyo, Michelle White, McKenna Yette and Hannah Zenger.

“These girls have worked extremely hard and have shown tremendous dedication to get to this point,” said team manager Kim Jones.

The Icestorm, sponsored by Deer Valley Trails and Potsdam Junior Hockey Association, launched a GoFundMe account at www.gofundme.com/potsdamicestorm16u to help raise money.

The Icestorm will also host a bottle drive through April 3. Bottles and cans can be dropped off at CJ’s Bottle and Can Redemption Center, SeaComm Plaza, 145 Market St., Potsdam and other bottle/can drop off locations will be listed on their GoFundMe.com.

A spaghetti dinner and basket raffle fundraiser will be held at the Potsdam Elks Lodge Wednesday, March 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, roll and dessert. The cost for adults is $9, ages 6-10 are $7 and ages 5 and under eat free while dining in. Take out will also be available.

The team is coached by Abbie Adams and Dick Christy. Team managers are Kim Jones and Angela Cipullo.
