POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Hospital Guild recently donated $2,000 to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation.
Earlier this year the Potsdam Hospital Guild partnered with a number of local businesses, Potsdam Central School, and several local organizations to sponsor a Footwear Collection Fundraiser.
“Gently used” sneakers, shoes, and boots were dropped off at locations around town, and then collected by members of the Hospital Guild.
The Guild shipped the shoes to a national vendor, who in turn sent the footwear to more than 45 underdeveloped nations around the world. In return for their shipment, the Guild received payment of $2,000, which it has donated to help defray the cost of a new rapid-infusion system for Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Emergency Department.
“This project really was a win-win-win,” noted Guild Board member Joyce Yianoukos. Reusing the shoes reduces waste and is good for the environment, the shoes help those in need internationally, and the funds we raised benefit own Hospital.”
This project was just one of activities the Potsdam Guild organizes each year to benefit Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Other activities include in-hospital sales, Trivia Night, a Garden Tour, and a Golf Tournament. The Guild also manages the Hospital Gift Shop.
