POTSDAM -- On Wednesday, Nov. 18, Potsdam’s long-serving trustee and former mayor, Ruth Garner, will turn 100 years old.
To celebrate this occasion the Potsdam Village Board of Trustees has scheduled a special board meeting.
The board will meet at 7 p.m., Nov. 18 in the Potsdam Civic Center Board Room.
Mayor Steve Yurgartis said the event is planned so “we can honor Ruth's remarkable career in public service.”
This will be opportunity to “witness history in the making,” Yurgartis said.
Garner was born Ruth Finnegan Nov. 18, 1915 in Massena, the daughter of railroad station agent Dennis Finnegan and telephone switchboard operator Isabelle Dame Finnegan, before the family moved to Norwood.
