Potsdam High student is youngest ever Civil War Roundtable presenter

His talk focused on George B. Swan, born in 1831 in Northfield, Mass. Swan arrived in Potsdam at age 21 and found employment at the door and sash factory on Fall Island. Within a few years he owned the business and several others. He became a very successful businessman and community leader, helping to build the Union Training Camp for the Civil War, where Meadow East Community now stands.

Adam, a member of the 118th NY Civil War Re-enactment Regiment, is the youngest presenter ever at the Civil War Round Table.

Adam said he had no idea what he would find when he picked George Swan’s name to research from an 1865 map. He conducted his research at the Potsdam Public Museum Archives.
