POTSDAM -- Potsdam High School’s Mock Trial team has been named county and regional champion and is runner up in the 2015 state competition.

PCS was one of eight teams in the state that competed at the state level.

The team advanced to the final round to compete against Clarence HS, where they lost by one point.

The team's final round was recently argued in front of Hon.Michael C. Lynch, a New York State Supreme Court justice, Appellate Division, Third Judicial District in Albany against Clarence High School.

Mock trial is an educational program, co-sponsored by The New York Bar Foundation and the St. Lawrence County Bar Association.

High school students get the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of civil and criminal law and courtroom procedures.

Thousands of students participate each year, with over 300 teams in New York state.

The tournaments at the county, regional and state levels are intended to teach students ethics, civility and professionalism, further students’ understanding of the law, court procedures and the legal system, and heighten an appreciation for academic studies and stimulate interest in law-related careers, according to program officials.

The final match can be viewed online at 2015 Mock Trial Finals.
