Potsdam high school taps valedictorians, salutatorian for 2015

POTSDAM -- Potsdam High School has named two valedictorians and a salutatorian for the class of 2015.

Yoel Ben-Avraham was named co-valedictorian and is currently a student at Clarkson School, with plans to double major in computer science and digital arts and sciences, with a minor in mathematics.

During his high school career, Ben-Avraham was a member of the cross-country team for two years, and has been involved in competitions for both the high school robotics team and Science Olympiad. He has also been a part of the computer club.

Ben-Avraham plans to stay at Clarkson for at least another semester. He is the son of Daniel Ben-Avraham and Monique Tirion.

Keith Bollt was named co-valedictorian. He has attended Potsdam Central School since moving to Potsdam the summer before Kindergarten.

In addition to completing his coursework, Bollt participated in many extracurricular activities during his time at Potsdam High School. He has been a member of Science Olympiad, National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and varsity cross-country running team. He was the co-captain of the varsity cross-country running team his junior year, and maintained his captain status his senior year. He has cross-country ski raced since he was five, and was officially accredited for skiing as a varsity athlete.

The environment has always been important to him, and has influenced his extracurricular activities. Bollt enjoys fly fishing and being outdoors. He volunteered for the Adirondack Mountain Club, participating in two high school trail crew expeditions. He attended and received a 4.0 GPA at Clarkson University’s River University, a three-week college course that teaches about environmental conservation. He helped stock trout for the DEC, and is passionate about environmental protection.

Bollt spent his senior year at the Clarkson School, a bridge program for high school seniors. He took all his classes as a college student at Clarkson, and received a 4.0 during the fall 2014 semester.

He has been accepted to into Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and will attend this fall. He is the oldest son of Elizabeth and Erik Bollt.

Gwyneth Heuser was named salutatorian and has been a student at Potsdam Central School since 9th grade.

Heuser takes several AP classes and is involved with many extracurricular activities, including speech and debate, Drama Club, jazz band, and National Honor Society. She is the vice president of speech and debate and the treasurer for Drama Club.

Music has been a large part of her high school career. She is in concert choir, concert band, has played in the high school orchestra, has been in two musicals, has played in the Potsdam Community Band, has participated in NYSSMA, and attended area All-State and All-County for three years in a row.

So far, she has been accepted to University of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Binghamton, and SUNY Albany. She is the daughter of Cherie and David Heuser.
