Potsdam high school names valedictorians, salutatorian for 2016

POTSDAM — Potsdam High School named Kalie Grant their valedictorian and Valerie Clark as their salutatorian for the class of 2016.

Grant has been involved in many extracurricular activities offered through the school and other outside programs. She is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society, a three-year member of Model United Nations and a four-year participant in Varsity Club where she serves as the treasurer.

She also worked as the editor for Yearbook Club her senior year, and was vice president of the class of 2016.

She is currently takes calculus II at Clarkson University through a dual-enrollment program. She recently finished Calculus I with a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester. Additionally, she volunteers her time as a tutor for students in the A.A.K. Middle School.

Beyond her academics, Grant is an athlete and has participated on varsity hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams at the school. She served as a captain in all three sports, obtaining various awards including Academic All-Northern, First-Team All Northern and even the Most Valuable Player for hockey. Meanwhile, much of her time remains spent on her hockey team based out of Canada, the Nepean Junior Wildcats, where she serves as the team captain.

She received a Division I Full Scholarship for hockey at St. Lawrence University, where she will be attending this fall.

Grant hopes to pursue a career in the medical field.

Clark has taken several AP classes and participated in both treble choir and concert choir during high school.

She has also been a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society for three years. She enjoys helping her peers as a National Honor Society tutor.

Clark has been accepted to University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology and LeMoyne College with plans to major in film and animation.

She works hard outside of school by volunteering and taking care of her nieces, the school said.

Valerie is the daughter of Ronald and Terri Clark.
