CANTON -- The Potsdam High School Mock Trial Team captured first place in the St. Lawrence County Mock Trial Competition for the fourth straight year, winning over Ogdensburg High School in the finale April 10.

The teams argued a fictitious malicious prosecution case at the St. Lawrence County Courthouse before Supreme Court Justice Mary Farley, who was highly complimentary of both teams.

Potsdam will now advance to the regional competition in Montgomery County on April 29. The winners from each of New York’s six regions will then advance to the state finals in Albany.

Potsdam’s winning team includes Garrett Mattimore, David Timmerman, Jennifer Zhang, Alison Ettinger-DeLong, Mark Melman, Daniel French, Jacques Kuno, Christopher Brooks, and Dustin Grant, teacher-coach Daniel Jenack and attorney-coach David Haggard.

The competing Ogdensburg students were Brandon Bogart, Hallie Boyer, James Gibson, Dedan Graveline, Jack Kelly, Brandon Oshier, Alexandra Pinkerton, Aidan Putman, Jordan Snyder, and Hailey Weber, assisted by teacher-coach George Snyder and attorney-coaches James Farrell and James McGahan.

The St. Lawrence County competition is hosted by SUNY Canton and co-sponsored by the New York State Bar Association, the St. Lawrence County Bar Association, the New York Bar Foundation and the Law, Youth, and Citizenship Program.
