POTSDAM -- A Potsdam Central School graduate recently guest conducted the Area All-State Zone 5 mixed chorus at SUNY Potsdam’s Hosmer Hall
Dennis Creighton has guest conducted at many other Area All-State festivals, however, he was thrilled at the chance to return home.
He is the son of Joretta and the late Jack Creighton of Bailey's Florist and graduated from PCS 1993.
Creighton said during the concert that he had performed as a tenor in this very concert 25 years earlier. One of the selections performed by the choir was "Highland Mary" by James Mulholland. Dennis recalled singing this selection on the same stage.
He studied at SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in music education. He later earned two masters degrees from Stony Brook in liberal studies and educational district leadership.
Creighton is currently the conductor of the Shoreham-Wading River High School Concert Choir. He also teaches general music class, music lab, and serves as the musical vocal director.
He is also the Director of American Music Abroad's Harmony Tour.
He spends a month each summer traveling with a select high school choir throughout Europe. Recent performances include the countries of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
