Potsdam grass-roots organization Seedcorn to dissolve after May 6 meeting

POTSDAM -- After 25 years of supporting local community action, the grass-roots organization Seedcorn will be dissolving.

Seedcorn’s last annual meeting is scheduled for the evening of May 6.

In 1991, a group of local community organizers got together to share knowledge and resources. When it began, Seedcorn had a fax machine, a computer, a folding machine, a bulk mail permit and non-profit status. The group began a library of books, magazines and other information that could be useful to fledgling community groups.

Projects like the North Country Energy Fair, Community Energy Services, the Morley Historic Mill, GardenShare, the Sustainable Living Project (now the Local Living Venture) and North Country Grown Cooperative all started as Seedcorn projects.

“We have had a good run,” said co-founder Robin McClellan, “but what we have to offer isn’t what’s needed today. It’s time for the next generation of community minded citizens to craft the organizations they need to be most effective,” he said.

The public is invited to Seedcorn’s last annual meeting at which they will celebrate their accomplishments over the last quarter-century.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 6 at the Potsdam Village Civic Center Community Room. Enter by the police station, go through the doors on the right and follow the signs up the stairs.
