POTSDAM – The Potsdam Fire Department has answered 417 calls this year, as of earlier this month, including 29 actual fires, one explosion, 57 other hazardous conditions, and 220 false alarms, according to Fire Chief Danielle Rose.
Rose noted in her report to the village Board of Trustees Monday night that there were three new department members, one local and two college students.
She said the department had again been denied a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant they applied for that the department was hoping to use to replace aging and out-of-date equipment.
But she said the department will soon begin their annual coin drive, which is generally pretty successful .
The department will also be selling Christmas trees again this year.
