POTSDAM -- John and Sondra Castle of Potsdam have donated a notebook to Clarkson University that contains images of the Clarkson family's important collection of American silver, which was given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The majority of the collection was given in 1923 by Emilie Clarkson Moore, the niece of Thomas S. Clarkson, for whom the university is named.

Some of the collection was given by Annie Clarkson, Emilie Clarkson Moore's sister.

Additional silver pieces were donated by other family members as well. Mimi Van Deusen, Potsdam Public Museum director and Potsdam historian, assisted with researching, organizing and presenting the notebook.

Emilie Clarkson Moore gave the images to John Castle's father, Henry. Henry Castle was Moore's chauffeur and gardener.

The collection will be housed in the Clarkson University archives.

Moore passed away in 1946. She and her husband are buried in Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam.
