POTSDAM -- A Potsdam dentist was jailed on $50,000 bail for attempting to buy a rifle while being prohibited to do so, according to state police.
Jeffrey G. Foerster, 61, West Stockholm, was charged with first-degree falsifying business records and attempted criminal purchase of a weapon, troopers said.
He is a dentist at North Country Dental Services, 22 Depot St.
Foerster allegedly tried to purchase a .243 caliber rifle at North Woods Outfitters, 1890 Morley-Potsdam Road.
He was arraigned in Potsdam court and committed to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
He is to reappear in Potsdam court at a later date to face the charges, officers said.
