POTSDAM – A 50-year-old Potsdam contractor has been charged with third-degree grand larceny for allegedly taking $14,000 upfront payment for renovation work he never completed, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Robert W. Cochrane, 50, 24 ½ Larnard St., was arrested Tuesday after deputies concluded an investigation into allegations made by a New Jersey couple who had purchased a home in Macomb and hired Cochrane to renovate it.

Deputies say the couple found Cochrane through Craigslist and hired him. After paying him $14,000 for materials and work that was not done, the couple made a demand for repayment.

When no repayment was made, the couple notified the sheriff’s office.

Cochrane was taken before Lisbon Town Justice Phil Fonda and released to the supervision of the probation department.
