POTSDAM -- The Computer Guys will have a new home in the hopes of increasing visibility after spending the last decade at 4 Clarkson Ave.

The computer sales and repair shop will move to 7585 U.S. Highway 11 and open Aug. 3 with no anticipated closure because the move will take place when the store is normally closed.

“The lease was up and there was a drastic increase in rent which seems to be a common thing in St. Lawrence County…like what happened to Ponderosa in Massena,” according to owner Kyle Matott.

The new location will offer roughly the same amount of space but Matott is expecting that traffic and visibility of the shop will increase revenue. The building was previously home to Absolute Quality Cleaning & Restoration.

“I think with all of the Walmart traffic it will be good for us,” he said.

Matott did not think the move would negatively affect in-store traffic from students.

“We get busier when the students return but most of our customers are local residents.” “Even a lot of textbook sales are shifting online,” Matott said.

The shop has served the North Country for 17 years and employs five people.

Computer Guys offer summer hours of 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Once college students return they extend hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and open Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“There is a possibility were could be closed for a day…but we think we can do the move in one day,” Matott said.
