Potsdam Chamber’s Hockey Night On Ice game contestants, Claudette Fefee of Potsdam and Ben Crane of Brushton.

POTSDAM – Although host Clarkson Golden Knights didn’t win the contest against number-one men’s hockey team Quinnipiac Saturday, Feb. 13, the Potsdam Chamber did provide wins for two brave ticket holders who participated in the chamber’s annual fundraising intermission games.

“It was a very exciting game, but unfortunately Clarkson didn’t pull out the win,” said Potsdam Chamber Board President David Moulton.

Ben Crane of Brushton put on hockey gloves and worked to stuff as much cash into a bank bag in the North Country Savings Bank-sponsored Money Grab game.

“Mr. Crane cashed out with $86,” said Potsdam Chamber Executive Director Marylee Ballou.

Claudette Fefee of Potsdam was blindfolded and with help from the crowd’s cheers had to find a large “prize” sign on the ice.

“She had some trouble at first,” Ballou said, “but finally got turned in the right direction. She ended up right next to the prize, and could have moved her arms to touch it, but missed. The chamber decided to award her the prize anyway, as she was so close and was such a good sport to participate.”

Fefee went home with a certificate for a one-night stay the Hampton Inn and a $25 gift card to Foxy Roxy’s Diner. Fefee told Ballou that it had been quite a while since she had been to a hockey game. Although she was a little hesitatant at first about going out on the ice, in the end, Fefee said it was a lot of fun.

The chamber also secretly put prize envelopes under seats in the sections where their ticketholders were located. People turning in those envelopes won prizes donated by Potsdam businesses.

“We greatly appreciate the generosity of our businesses and all those that purchased tickets from us,” Moulton said. “The funds raised through both ticket sales and our Pregame Punch Card event go to support the chamber’s major event of the year, Potsdam Summer Festival,” Moulton said.

Participating pregame businesses included ½ Ton’s Bar & Grill, 3 Bears Gluten Free Bakery & Café, Arby’s, Cactus Grill, Chilly Delight, Mama Lucia, Maple Run Emporium, Maxfields, McDuff’s, Park Bros. Coffee Lab, Potsdam Food Co-op, Sergi’s, and the University Bookstore Café.

Donations for the envelope giveaway and on-ice games were provided by ½ Ton’s, Arby’s, Clarkson University, Collegiate Village of Potsdam, The Cornerstore, Foxy Roxy’s, The Hampton Inn, McDonald’s, MVP Sports, North Country Savings Bank, Pizza Hut, The UPS Store, and Walmart.
