POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will honor the Orchestra of Northern New York, a former Potsdam Central principal and Hobble Gobble Prediction Run/Walk race coordinator at their annual dinner.

The awards include the Pride in Potsdam Community Award, Outstanding Citizen Honor and Chad Fuller Memorial Award.

The dinner will be held Thursday Nov. 12, in the Cheel Commons, Cheel Campus Center at Clarkson University. Cocktails will begin at 6 p.m. and the dinner will start at 6:30.

The Orchestra of Northern NY will receive the Pride in Potsdam Community Award.

“The award recognizes the orchestra’s efforts in enhancing the quality of life in Potsdam and the region. The Orchestra of NNY is an asset to the Potsdam community and engages in activities that result in positive acclaim both for themselves as well as the community. Some of these activities include their public school performances, an orchestra musical instrument “petting zoo”, and its youth musician competition,” the chamber said in a prepared statement.

The Orchestra was founded in 1988 by Music Director and conductor Kenneth Andrews. The Orchestra’s mission seeks to enrich the quality of life in northern New York through live performances of orchestral music by outstanding musicians and to emphasize the engagement of area youth in the appreciation of music. The orchestra is composed of musicians from NYC to Montreal and Buffalo to Plattsburgh.

ONNY is the only professional symphony orchestra from Rochester to Burlington and Syracuse to Ottawa.

Derry Loucks will receive the chamber’s Outstanding Citizen Honor.

“Derry Loucks is the very humble race director of the Hobble Gobble Prediction Run/Walk that takes place every November. The race has grown under his direction…not only in number of racers, now capped at 575, but also in the amount of money that is raised for local charities such as the Potsdam Holiday Fund and local neighborhood centers. Last year’s race raised $14,500 and over its 17 years it has raised over $122,000,” the chamber said.

The final award the chamber will present will be the Chad Fuller Memorial Award. This award was established by the chamber in 2003 to honor Chad Fuller, his memory, and his contribution to our community.

“The recipient will have shown throughout their lives, a duty to others which goes well beyond exemplary service to the community. Qualities such as integrity, purpose beyond self, and a high standard of personal and occupational performance help to direct the selection of its recipient,” the chamber said.

This award has not been given by the chamber since 2009 when it was presented to James Corbett.

This year the chamber has chosen former Lawrence Ave Elementary Principal Larry Jenne to receive the honor.

“Jenne is a prime example of a person who puts 200 percent into his passions. He held a “rock star” appeal to the students in his school and used every opportunity to teach the value of character and kindness,” the chamber said.
