POTSDAM -- A water main problem along Leroy Street appears to be more involved than first thought when it was discovered Tuesday.
The village Public Works Department discovered the leak to a valve in a main Tuesday, according to Village Administrator Everett Basford. But they were not able to isolate it, so put off the work until this morning.
“The line is cracked and needs to be fixed,” Basford said. “It’s a little more of a job than they first thought,” he said.
Potsdam High School students were dismissed early today as a precautionary move in light of the required work across Leroy Street from the school.
Superintendent Patrick Brady said that after-school activities that use the high school building were canceled, but athletic events outdoors remained as scheduled.
The water emergency did not impact the middle and elementary schools, which were dismissed at regular times, Brady said.
