Potsdam Central snackpack program reaches 1,000 pack milestone

POTSDAM -- The Snack Pack Program recently reached a major milestone by preparing more than 1,000 snack packs for Potsdam Central School students, said Laurell Brault, program founder and coordinator.

The program was launched last November and operates out of New Hope Community Church (NHCC), 33 Grant St.

Currently, 117 students receive eight non-perishable snacks on weekends and holidays.

The program is totally dependent on the generosity and involvement of community members and organizations, said Brault.

Volunteers normally meet at 9 a.m. on Thursdays at NHCC to prepare the snack packs.

If you have a child who may be eligible to receive a snack pack please contact the school counselor.

The program was established to ensure that no child goes hungry over the weekend, and that every child is fully prepared to be an active learner when she or he returns to school, Brault said.

The program does accept food and monetary donations. Checks can be made out to the Potsdam Snack Pack Program, 200 Market St., #228, Potsdam 13676.
