POTSDAM -- Potsdam High School recently held orientation for 102 incoming freshman and transfer students.
Students were greeted by their guidance counselors who provided them with a copy of their schedule.
Juniors and seniors passed out “Class of 2020” shirts and Potsdam High School planners. Alison Benedict, the new high school principal shared “The Top Ten Ways to have a Great High School Experience.” They included things like getting involved, avoiding the drama, learning to study, getting organized and getting some sleep.
Mark Wilson, the dean of students and athletic director encouraged to students to focus on time management so they don’t fall behind. Students then joined Jill Gaebel and Joe Stark, physical education teachers, in the gym for some team-building activities.
The activities required students to “step out of their comfort zone” and work together in teams many times with other students they did not know, a news release said.
Afterwards, students were given guided tours of the building. A little rain caused the outdoor barbecue to be moved inside.
Students also had a chance to meet with their guidance counselors to resolve any scheduling issues. Although the official program ended at noon, many students stayed around tried their locker combinations and walked their first day schedule.
