Potsdam Central down to one candidate for new superintendent after Rochester-area candidate withdraws; board meeting tonight

POTSDAM -- Residents of the Potsdam Central School District will have a chance to speak with one candidate for district superintendent Wednesday night.

But the meeting is to be with just Potsdam High School Principal Joann Chambers, who was one of two candidates until Rochester-area Secondary Principal Bradley Zilliox of the Wheatland-Chili Central Schools in Scottsville, the second finalist, withdrew his name from consideration.

Zilliox has reportedly withdrawn his application by notifying St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES without comment. According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, he has been named the new principal at Edison Tech High School in Rochester.

The Board of Education is meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school library to consider options, which might include re-opening the search, calling back candidates who had been eliminated, or simply agreeing to appoint Chambers. The board is expected to meet in closed session.

Chambers will meet with community members at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the A.A. Kingston large group-instruction room, in a scheduled meeting with the community on her possible appointment.

Current Potsdam superintendent Pat Brady has accepted the superintendent’s position at Massena Central School and starts there in July.
