POTSDAM -- Ginger Akin, Potsdam, and Charlotte Ramsay, Canton, recently joined the board of directors at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation.

Akin is a registered nurse and the wife of local oral surgeon Lee Akin. Ramsay is a retired early childhood educator and former mayor of Canton.

Other board members include Chair Penelope Rattan; Vice Chair Stephen Putman; Treasurer Gary Canfield; Secretary William Kirchgasser; members Joseph Fitzsimons, Scott Goldie, Angela Gray, Owen Halloran, Stacey Howlett, David Kirwan, Eleanor Menz, Bill Putnam, Rich VanLeuven, Lowell Warner and Brooks Washburn.

The foundation was established in 1985 to support Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s mission by raising, investing and managing funds for the hospital’s benefit. The foundation conducts an annual campaign, accepts memorial and honor gifts, encourages bequests and planned gifts, coordinates grant applications to government agencies and corporate funders and works with donors capable of making a substantial impact on the hospital.

Last year more than $700,000 was contributed to the foundation for equipment, facilities and patient services.

The foundation also manages invested funds totaling more than $11 million. The endowment funds provide interest that may also go toward projects.
