A Canton man and two Potsdam men have graduated the state police academy and will be joining the North Country’s Troop B as state troopers.

Justin A. Dowdle, Canton, and Joshua S. Foster and Nicholas B. Barrett, both of Potsdam, were among the 226 newest members of the state police.

All three have been assigned to Troop B, which includes St. Lawrence County, but is based in Raybrook.

All three recently celebrated their accomplishments at the 202nd session graduation ceremony from the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy.

“After months of training, the 202nd Basic School join the ranks of one of the finest police agencies in the world,” said Superintendent D’Amico. “For nearly 100 years the State Police have served and protected the citizens of New York. Thank you for your dedication and determination over the past few months as you worked to become a New York State Trooper.”

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo also congratulated the new members of the State Police. The new State Troopers will report for duty beginning February 12 to posts throughout the state.

"Today's graduating class of Troopers is continuing the accomplished tradition of the New York State Police," Gov. Cuomo said. "I commend each of these men and women for their commitment to protecting our communities – they are a perfect example of what it means to dedicate yourself to serving others, and I wish them well as they work to keep our State safe for all New Yorkers."
