POTSDAM — Potsdam Central School should be in a better position financially this year than in previous years, according to Superintendent Joann Chambers.
Chambers says if the governor’s budget adds a little more support for the district then they should be able to fund their budget without much issue.
“We are pretty close — there is a small, reasonable gap which we could cover with the fund balance if the state doesn’t issue more funding,” she said.
She said she hasn’t heard too much about whether more funding would be included in the budget for schools, but that both house bills called for more money and it would not be unusual for the amount to fall somewhere in the middle.
Chambers has said in the past the school would like to fund their own summer school program and bring back a high school math teaching position if funding allows.
A finance meeting will be held April 6 to further discuss the budget.
The Board of Education will meet April 11 to review the budget and Chambers expects them to pass the budget April 25 at a meeting.
