POTSDAM – The village board passed two local laws at its meeting Monday, one to annex inside the village line some newly acquired Clarkson University property, and one to straighten out “a glitch” in the village code on parking fines.
“It was just a quirk in the fine schedule” where in particular instances, the late fees amounted to less than the regular fine, explained Mayor Steve Yurgartis after the meeting.
“And we annexed the Robar property on the western edge of the Clarkson University Hill Campus,” Yurgartis said. The school had bought the property from members of the Frederick “Hank” Robar family to improve the appearance near the campus of the western entrance to the village.
The annexation allows the village to supply water and sewer service to the property, and Clarkson will make preparations and lay lines, university officials have said. So far Clarkson’s only plans for the property include moving a maintenance building there from near Walker Arena and putting up an experimental greenhouse.
