POTSDAM -- The village Board of Trustees voted Monday morning to proceed with an application for a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant.
The application has to be in by Wednesday, June 14, according to Fred Hanss, director of the Potsdam Planning and Development Office, who says they did not get much advance notice of the due date.
The board is to vote on the actual application Monday night, after a presentation of the proposal and comments by citizens. Hanss was working on drawing up the proposal Monday morning.
He said the village will attempt to secure the one $10 million grant to be awarded in the North Country this year. Last year, Plattsburgh won the award.
“The state is looking for applications ready to go relatively quickly,” Hanss said. “The village has a number of those projects ready to go.”
The application will focus on streetscape enhancement, the downtown Riverwalk plan, the whitewater park plan, and the East Dam hydro generator.
The existing downtown streetscape developments plan envisions work on Constitution, Depot and Willow streets, onto Market Street up to Elm and Main streets.
A sub-committee of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council will meet to review all the applications from the region and make a recommendation to state authorities.
