POTSDAM -- A Potsdam native bass angler is featured in the September issue of Bass Magazine.

Chris Flint, an accomplished bass fisherman, police officer and blogger, offered advice on lure selection for the upcoming Eastern Divisional Bassmasters tournament set for Sept. 24-26 on the St. Lawrence River in Waddington.

As North Country native, Flint knows the river well.

According to the article, Flint predicts most of the smallmouth in the St. Lawrence River will be feeding heavily on gobies and hanging around rock piles, shoals and drops in depth of 20 to 50 feet.

The key to catching them, Flint says, is using the right lure.

"The Xzone Lures Slammer always dominates there in the green and purple patterns that imitate a goby," he said in the article. "A spinnerbait is good if you get over the right chunk of grass with a rock mixture up on it pretty good.

Flint also warned anglers to expect some high winds during the tournament.

In 2012 Flint ranked 23 in the Rookie Season Northern Everstart. Later that year he took sixth place in the Northern Everstart in Clayton and was a championship qualifier.
