Forest rangers from Potsdam and Canton returned Friday after fighting wildfires in Montana.
James Canevari, DEC Lands and Forests, Canton, and Aaron Graves, DEC Lands and Forests, Potsdam, both experienced firefighters, are part of a 20-man wildland firefighting crew sent from New York, dispatched through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service.
This agreement allows for the sharing and dispatching of firefighters throughout the country.
They left on Aug. 16 to Polson, Mont., where they spent 14 days fighting wildfires.
The crew was assigned to the 9,863-acre West Garceau Fire located in Polson, and later to the 585-acre Elevation Mountain Fire in Greenough, Mont.
