POTSDAM -- All parents of Potsdam Central School students will now receive a copy of the Board of Education agenda emailed to them prior to each meeting.
The idea was suggested by a parent, PCS Superintendent Joann Chambers said.
“It’s a simple thing we can do,” Chambers said, “to help parents decide if they want to attend a meeting or not.”
The meeting agendas were always available online on the school’s website, but were not so easy to access if someone did not know where to look.
Now, each parent who supplied an email to the school will be aware of BOE meeting dates and topics, she said.
The first meeting (June 13) following the implementation of the email notice did not see any increase in public participation, Chambers said.
“We had to compete with a beautiful summer day,” she said.
Chambers was hopeful that this fall more community members will attend and become involved.
During the BOE meeting Tuesday night, several sports mergers were approved.
Female swimmers of all levels from Colton-Pierrepont Central will join PCS swimmers this school year. All levels of boys and girl from CPCS will participate in track at Potsdam Central as well.
Modified and JV athletes from Colton-Pierrepont will be able to play for the Sandstoners this year.
The BOE also approved male and female modified and varsity level athletes from Brasher Falls Central to join PCS athletes in spring track.
The board next meets June 27.
