CANTON -- Republican primaries for their presidential candidates in New York and several other states are today.

In St. Lawrence County, one polling place in each township will be open from noon to 9 p.m.

Candidates on the ballot will be former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, Texas congressman Ron Paul, Georgia historian and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, even though he dropped out of the race earlier this month.

The county Board of Elections consolidated polling sites into one for each township to accommodate primary voters, which generally vote in much smaller numbers than the number of people who cast ballots in a general election.
