MASSENA — An Ogdensburg woman was charged Oct. 27 with prostitution, assault and drug possession following a report of a person with a knife that was reported to state police this past summer.

On July 27 at 2:50 a.m. state police responded to a residence on State Highway 420 to investigate a reported stabbing.

The victim, a 56-year old man from Massena, sustained lacerations to the front of his right shoulder, police said. The suspect had left the scene prior to police arriving.

The victim was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police did not report his name or say how serious his injuries were.

The suspect, Shaniice L. King, 25, Ogdensburg, went to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she reported to troopers that she had been raped. This proved to be unfounded, police said.

An investigation revealed that King engaged in sexual conduct with the victim in return for money, police said.

She was charged with prostitution, second-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, police said.

King was also charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

She was arraigned in the Town of Massena Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

The arrest took place at St. Lawrence County Jail at 3:55 p.m., police said.
