Plumbers and Steamfitters Union recruiting new apprentices in North Country

St. Lawrence County residents are eligible for a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee or Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local Union #73 recruitment for 20 plumber and steamfitter apprentices.

Recruitment will go through May 20, 2017 for 20 plumber and steamfitter apprentices, a New York State Department of Labor press release said.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #73, 705 East Seneca St., Oswego, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the recruitment period. Applications must be obtained in person. All applications must be submitted by May 20.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• be at least 18 years old.

• have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

• attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work required, which may include:

• be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.

• be able to work in confined spaces.

• be able to work from ladders and scaffolds at various heights.

• be able to work in extreme cold and heat.

• possess a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.

• pass a drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

• have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.

• purchase text materials for class at an average cost of $50 per year.

• submit military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
