POTSDAM -- A plaque is being designed and donations are being accepted now for the dedication of Potsdam Central School's track to former coach Bill Lewis.
The PCS track and field alumni who have organized the effort are working on obtaining and preparing the stone and plaque. The Potsdam Board of Education approved the project and plaque wording on Dec. 8.
A dedication will be held in the spring.
Donations will be accepted via check, which can be made out to David Dwyer and mailed to him at 6393 Lost Tree Lane, Spring Hill, FL 34606.
Lewis, who still lives in Potsdam, coached Sandstoner boys’ track teams from 1963 until 1974, amassing a 107-3 record and nine consecutive Section X titles (1965-1973). He retired as a middle school guidance counselor in 1994.
The alumni and school district plan to set a boulder with a plaque inside the stadium complex, near the memorial for longtime radio sportscaster Con Elliott.
The alumni fundraising chair is Phil Demarest. Donations of any amount are appreciated.
