PIERREPONT -- Volunteers from the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to a family of four after a fire on Tuesday on Plains Road in Pierrepont.

Pierrepoint Fire Chief Tim Green on the day of the incident said a chimney fire destroyed a house at 3 Plains Road, which Stephanie Huckle and William Huckle shared with three children. More details about the fire are here.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as food and clothing to two adults and two teenage children.

“Volunteers also offered emotional support, health services, and comfort kits containing personal care items. In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery,” a prepared statement from Red Cross reads.

All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge and made possible by the generosity of the public. To donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief and help people affected by disasters big and small, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

To join the Red Cross as a disaster responder, visit www.redcross.org/volunteer, enter one’s home zip code and select “Disaster Services” as the area of interest. Red Cross officials say local volunteers are needed to help provide disaster relief across the North Country.
