Moira man earns $10,000 seat in Las Vegas poker tournament

AKWESASNE – Little did anyone know that local car repairman Greg Snyder, Moira, considered himself a skilled poker player. He recently earned a $10,000 seat in the world famous World Series of Poker competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, after winning a satellite qualifier at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.

“I come to the casino every Friday night and play in the Poker Room,” states Snyder. His modest approach to the game comes down to his ability to read the cards and plot his next move regardless of his surroundings.

Admittedly, Snyder felt he always had a chance to win the seat. “All you need is chips and a chair.” Snyder later goes on to state, “it does not matter if you have 5 chips left, you still have chance – I’ll fight to stay in!”

Snyder will embark on his quest to bring home the coveted gold bracelet on July 7 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.

Considering he has never been anywhere other than Florida for his honeymoon, Snyder is extremely excited to see Las Vegas. “I am going to bring my wife and children too!” he stated.
