North Country education advocates today are asking area residents to call Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office and ask him to make equitable school funding a priority in his budget.
“When hundreds of North Country citizens join together, this simple, 5 minute act has a real impact,” a statement from the Canton-based group said, in promoting today as “Phone Day.”
They have phone numbers and sample scripts posted at fairfundingforstudents.org.
The “phone day” effort follows a meeting Thursday night in Canton in which state representatives said reform of the state aid formula for school funding is crucial, but there was no unanimity about how to do it.
But they did agree that the best way to accomplish it in the short term could be to make an appeal to the governor.
