CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services and the County Animal Response Team will hold a meeting Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. to discuss meeting the requirements of the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act of 2006.
The law mandates that state and local emergency teams include pets and service animals in emergency preparedness plans.
The meeting, which will be at the human services building, 80 St. Hwy. 310, will bring bring together local government officials and organizations offering Red Cross emergency shelter sites to discuss the mandate.
Joseph Gilbert, director of the St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services; Kelly Hecker, emergency services manager at the American Red Cross; and David Chico, director of emergency programs for the state Department of Agriculture and Markets Division of Animal Industry will speak.
