Parsihville Fire Department hosts safety day at school

PARISHVILLE -- Members of the Parishville Fire Department recently spent the entire day at the Parishville-Hopkinton school where over 300 student, teachers and staff learned about fire and life safety.

The day was kicked off with a Powerpoint presentation assembly with Investigator Joe Lacks of the the St. Lawrence County Bureau of Fire. Children and staff learned the importance of smoke detectors and having a planned escape route from your home.

Later the elementary classes visited the SLC fire chiefs "fire safety trailer" where they had "real life" experience practicing how to escape from a building in the event of a fire.

October is fire safety month and the St. Lawrence County Emergency Services along with your local fire departments remind everyone to check your smoke detectors and install new ones if needed.

Families should also prepare an escape plan on how to exit their home in the event of an emergency. Pre-planning and practice make escaping a fire emergency much more successful. For more information on fire safety in your home call the St. Lawrence County EmergecnyServices at 379-2240 or contact your local fire station.
