PARISHVILLE -- Michiko Taylor of Parishville won the "Eye for Color" award from the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors on Aug. 5.
This show is one of the top 10 watercolor shows in the U.S. and has entries from all over the country, as well as nationally acclaimed judges.
From 455 entries, 85 artists were chosen and 30 awards were given.
Taylor is originally from Japan, where she worked in commercial art before marrying, moving to the U.S., and raising her children.
On retirement she picked up her brush again, took a watercolor painting class at SUNY Potsdam and has been painting every day since then.
She is a member of the TAUNY Watercolor Circle and the Massena Artists Association and has exhibited widely in the North Country as well as at the Emerald National Painting Exhibition in Oregon.
The award-winning painting is of a dragonfly visiting petunias on her window box, and is a perfect subject to show the fluid and fresh nature of watercolor, as its transparency shows the fragility of life while his wings almost disappear in the flower before he alights.
