DICKINSON – Former Assemblywoman Chloe Ann R. O'Neil was killed during a two-car crash at the intersection of State Route 11B and County Route 5 that occurred Thursday, Nov. 15 at around 8:41 a.m.
State troopers investigated the accident and said the 75-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon.
She began serving in the state Assembly after her husband, John G. A. O'Neil, was killed in an auto accident in 1992. She remained an Assemblywoman until 1998.
Troopers said that a a 2007 Pontiac G6 sedan, operated by Angel L. Oliver, 29, of Bombay, was traveling southbound on County Route 5.
Oliver failed to yield the right of way to a 2016 Buick Enclave, operated by O’Neil, who was traveling eastbound on State Route 11B.
Oliver’s vehicle struck O’Neil’s vehicle on the driver side causing O’Neil’s vehicle to roll over and come to rest on the passenger side in the southern ditch.
Oliver was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center at Alice Hyde in Malone where she is being treated for minor injuries.
O’Neil was also transported to Alice Hyde. An autopsy will be performed at a date and time to be determined
This case remains under investigation.
State Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who was driving in the area at around the time the crash occurred to call SP Malone at 518-483-5000.
