Parishville-Hopkinton Central School names class leaders

PARISHVILLE -- Parishville-Hopkinton Central School announced Nicole White as their valedictorian and that Mary Coventry and Kayla Myers are co-salutatorians of the graduating class of 2015.

Valedictorian Nicole White has been a student at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School since kindergarten. Nicole will graduate with an advanced designation Regents diploma with honors and mastery in mathematics and science. She achieved a seven-semester average of 98.64 and has fulfilled the requirements for PHCS majors in mathematics, science, Spanish, social studies, English, music, and fine arts.

Nicole has achieved high honor roll status every quarter of her junior and senior high career. She has received numerous highest achievement awards and has attained perfect or near perfect scores on all of her Regents exams. Nicole has also participated in Project Challenge at Clarkson University, the St. Lawrence University Scholars Enrichment Program, Horizons at Clarkson University, the Mythbuster Competition sponsored by ALCOA, and was a member of a Book Battle team that placed first in a regional competition. She was also a member of the PHCS team that won first place in the St. Lawrence University Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Contest. She placed second out of all the seniors who participated.

Nicole has been involved with the school’s musicals since her sixth grade year, earning lead roles in her final two shows. She also has been a member of high school band and stage (jazz) band for four years, and has been a member of the school’s high school chorus and select choir. Nicole played six years of varsity soccer, earning Second Team All-Northern, and First Team All- Northern. She has played four years of varsity softball and three years of varsity basketball. Prior to that, she played modified softball and JV basketball. She has earned Academic All-Northern honors in all three sports. She was a member of the school gymnastics team.

She is proud of the various leadership positions she has held throughout the years, including senior class president, Student Council president, National and Junior National Honor Society president, Geology Club president, Follies president, Foreign Language Club president, leadership positions in band, and captain of her soccer and basketball teams.

Nicole has also been actively involved in her community as well. Some of her favorite volunteer activities include; volunteering at Special Olympics, assisting younger athletes and students, organizing food drives, ringing the Salvation Army bell, helping at Storytime for Tots, volunteering as the school mascot, and being an a Red Cross blood donor.

She is going to college undecided in a major, but is currently interested in journalism, geology, political science and pre-medicine. Nicole has decided to attend Notre Dame in the fall.

Co-salutatorian Mary Coventry is the daughter of Mike and Karen Coventry and is sister to Michaela Coventry in Winthrop. She has been a student at Parishville-Hopkinton School since 2006. Prior to that, she attended elementary school in Lake Placid. Mary has earned a seven-semester average of 97.13 and will graduate with an advanced designation Regents diploma with honors and mastery in mathematics. She has fulfilled the requirements for majors in Spanish, mathematics, science, English, social studies, and music.

As well as excelling in academics, Mary has been an avid participant in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. She was an integral part of the Student Council and has participated in Foreign Language Club, National Honor Society, band, Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Project Challenge, prom committee, and yearbook where Mary holds the position of business manager. Mary has also played soccer, basketball, and softball since seventh grade where she has held several captain positions.

Mary plans on obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at either SUNY Binghamton or D’Youville College and is considering becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

Co-Salutatorian Kayla Myers is the daughter of Joseph and Jennifer Myers and sister to Colin. She began school at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School when she was four and will leave PHCS with a Regents diploma with honors, a seven semester GPA of 97.11 and will graduate with majors in math, science, English, social studies, CTE: Health Careers and CTE: Allied Health.

Kayla has actively participated in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Student Council, PHCS Follies and band. Kayla has also participated in Special Olympics and Relay for Life. She has been an active volunteer at her church by being a youth leader and an altar server. She also played soccer and softball. She was invited and participated in Project Challenge and Horizon’s through Clarkson University.

Kayla works at Colton Kunoco in the evenings and weekends. She will attend SUNY Canton in the fall and has been accepted via early decision into their nursing program.
