Update: A correction was posted at 9:30 a.m. to reflect that athletic field upgrades will not be included in the $2.3 million capital project. The original project plan called for updates to the school's athletic fields, but was removed as funding would not allow these improvements to take place.
PARISHVILLE — Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District voters approved a capital project that would see $2.3 million invested in the school.
A total of 103 ballots were cast with 94 in favor and 9 opposed, which is an approval rate of 91.3 percent, according to school officials. There were 99 paper ballots and four absentee ballots.
The school participated in a building condition survey in 2015 and identified several areas that are in need of being addressed.
A major chunk of funding would go toward replacing locker rooms for male and female students. Improvement to locker rooms have not been made since 1968.
Improvements to the auditorium would include electrical, sound, lighting and equipment upgrades.
Other work proposed would be asbestos removal, carpet replacement, phone system replacement, a playground upgrade and replacing flooring in the two gyms.
"The fields were right at the cut-line of the project," school officials said. "It was in the survey and was on the original scope of work, but it exceeded the cost of the project, therefore it was removed."
