Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Board of Education approves retirement

PARISHVILLE -- The Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Board of Education (BOE) approved the retirement of a teacher, a pair of student trips and sports team mergers at a meeting Monday night.

The BOE approved a letter of resignation from Irene Sinclair, library media specialist, PHCS Superintendent Wayne Walbrdige said. She has taught in the district for 32 years.

The board approved numerous spring, fall and winter sports merger requests including: football with Brasher Falls, boys ice hockey with Brasher Falls, boys and girls cross-country running with Norwood-Norfolk Central, boys and girls indoor track with Norwood-Norfolk Central, and boys and girls spring track with Norwood-Norfolk Central.

More mergers approved included golf with Potsdam Central, volleyball with Potsdam Central, girls lacrosse with Potsdam Central, and boys lacrosse with Colton-Pierrepont Central. Colton-Pierrepont students are anticipated to be joining the PHCS boys baseball team.

Walbridge said the BOE approved a pair of overnight canoe trips for the wilderness studies program. The class is led by teacher Michael White.

One PHCS student will attend an overnight Forensics Team trip at Hofstra University in Long Island. The student, who is a member of the Speech and Debate Team, will travel with Malone Central students April 27-30. The cost of the trip will be shared between the districts.

“She will get tour the city as well,” Walbridge said.
