MASSENA -- Parents and others attended a child’s car seat check recently at the Massena Fire Station, sponsored by the North Country Child Safety Coalition, with help from the Massena Police Department, Seaway Valley Ambulance, and the St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Program.
The car seat check was funded through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Car seat inspections around the state have found that most parents don’t install a child’s car seat tightly enough, and often leave the harness too loose to secure the child in a crash.
At these check sessions, certified child passenger safety technicians screen for these errors, as well as for a host of other issues that could pose a safety hazard to the child who is riding in the seat.
Donations for the event came from the Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen in Massena.
