OGDENSBURG -- As winter approaches, Ogdensburg officials are reminding residents of seasonal parking restrictions and snow removal obligations.

Overnight on-street parking is prohibited in Ogdensburg from Dec. 1 through March 31.

In Ogdensburg, property owners are responsible for removing snow and debris from the sidewalks in front of their property.

Officials say residents must remove any snow that is accidentally placed in the roadway when clearing driveways and sidewalks.

Home and business owners are responsible for the actions contractors who remove snow and are encouraged to report illegal activity to the City Police or DPW so that it can be addressed.

Anonymity will be honored as permitted under law.

Officials say homeowners may not push snow out into the street.

“ It is illegal to place snow or cause for it to be placed in a roadway. Please remove any snow that you might accidentally place in the roadway,” a press release from the city manager’s office says. “Do not push snow on to a neighbor’s property without their permission. If you have permission, and you push across the roadway, please ensure that you clean all the snow out of the roadway. Be courteous; do not make it someone else’s problem.”

Residents are also reminded to place garbage containers in their driveways or between the sidewalk and the street, but never in the roadway.

Contractors that are removing / hauling snow from a private or commercial property are to coordinate with the City DPW as to where it can be dumped.

“The City has identified several large sites that should meet our snow storage needs. Please coordinate your usage of these sites with the City so that we can ensure that we keep them pushed up,” the release says. “We are going to allow dumping into the river under emergency situations only.”

Contractors are asked not to dump more than three loads in a row when using the storage sites.

Any questions related to snow removal should be directed to City DPW for clarification at 393-2300 or email sthornhill@ogdensburg.org.
